About Fort Polk
Fort Polk is a United States Army base located in Vernon Parish near Leesville, Louisiana. The main post consists of about 100,000 acres, mostly in the Kisatchie National Forest. Fort Polk was established in 1941 and named in honor of the Right Reverend Leonidas Polk, the first Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Louisiana and a Confederate general. Thousands of soldiers learned the basics of combat here during the World War II Louisiana Maneuvers. Afterwards, the post was opened for the Korean War and then closed. Now Fort Polk serves primarily as a training post for units preparing to deploy to fight the nation’s wars. Fort Polk has grown over the years into a military and social destination, serving every possible need of modern military personnel. Welcome to Fort Polk!
